24TH GENERAL ASSEMBLY THEME: JOSHUA 24:15
".......WE WILL SERVE THE LORD"
Title: Choose to Serve the Lord
Introduction:
Receive Christian greetings. I want us to reflect upon the timeless wisdom found in the Book of Joshua, chapter 24, verse 15. In this verse, Joshua, the great leader of Israel, presents a powerful challenge to the people: "But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord."
This statement encapsulates a fundamental truth that resonates through the ages – the freedom to choose whom we will serve. Let us explore the significance of this choice and the profound implications it holds for our lives.
(1) The Call to Choose:
Joshua's words echo through time, inviting us to make a conscious decision about whom we will serve. Will it be the fleeting desires of this world, or will it be the eternal God who created us and sustains us? The choice is ours, but it is not one to be made lightly.
(2) The Allure of False Gods:
Throughout history, humanity has been tempted by the allure of false gods – symbols of power, wealth, and pleasure. These idols promise fulfillment but deliver only emptiness and despair. Let us not be deceived by their temporary glitter, for they cannot offer the lasting satisfaction that comes from serving the one true God.
(3) The Blessings of Serving the Lord:
On the other hand, serving the Lord brings immeasurable blessings into our lives. It fills us with a sense of purpose and direction, guiding us through life's challenges with wisdom and strength. When we align our will with God's, we experience true fulfillment and joy that surpasses all understanding.
(4) The Testimony of Commitment:
Joshua's declaration, "as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord," serves as a powerful testimony of commitment. It reminds us that our choice to serve God is not only personal but also extends to our families and communities. By living out our faith daily, we bear witness to the transformative power of God's love.
Conclusion:
My dear brothers and sisters, as we reflect on Joshua's words, let us heed the call to choose whom we will serve. Let us turn away from the false gods of this world and wholeheartedly commit ourselves to the service of the one true God. May our lives be a testament to His glory, as we follow in the footsteps of Joshua and declare,
